Aging and other natural conditions causes the skin to develop uneven pigmentation causing colored spots and freckles on the surface of the skin. The skin is divided into layers in the epidermis which is the thin layer on the surface of the skin. Between the layers are dark-colored melanocytes which give color to the skin. In normal skin, they are evenly distributed between the layers. When melanocytes are clumped together they cause visible darkening or pigmentation on the surface of the skin which appear as melasma or freckles. Special anti-oxidant treatment allows the deep penetration of medication which promotes the dispersal of melanocytes thus resulting in the gradual fading of the pigmented areas on the skin.
Aging brings out the natural appearance of wrinkles in the skin which can be treated with specially formulated anti-oxidant products at M&T Center.
Facial pitting caused by acne can also be treated using this type of treatment.
Deep in the dermis is an abundance of collagen and elastic fibers (like cotton in a pillow) which are produced by cells called “fibroblasts”. As we age, these fibroblasts also age thus reducing their production of collagen. Collagen itself also deteriorates with aging, losing much of its elasticity. As a result, the collagen supporting the skin begins to collapse causing the skin to sag or wrinkle (such as a pillow with less cotton). The fibroblasts can also be damaged by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Antioxidant treatment penetrates deeply into the dermis to stimulate the production of more collagen fibers and revive the skin’s natural firmness and texture. This process may also be used to delay the onset of wrinkles before they appear.
